Pick up any shampoo, conditioner, lotion, or deodorant in your bathroom. Look at the ingredient list. You will almost certainly find one word: Fragrance (sometimes listed as Parfum).
That single word is an unregulated umbrella that can contain anywhere from 30 to 200 individual chemicals — and manufacturers are not required to disclose a single one of them. Hidden inside fragrance blends are commonly found phthalates, the endocrine disruptors Dr. Pat Luse, DC, specifically warns about in The 7 Systems Plan.
Phthalates have been linked to feminization in men, lower IQs in children, PCOS, miscarriages, autism, asthma, and obesity. And they enter your body every single day through products you trust.
Your skin is your largest organ at roughly 22 square feet. It doesn’t just excrete toxins — it absorbs them. Every chemical that enters through the skin has to be processed by your liver, kidneys, colon, lungs, and skin — the five workers on the Detox System cleaning crew (System 7).
“Switch over to organic toiletries, including shampoo, toothpaste, deodorants, and cosmetics. Limit the things that come into contact with your skin. Assume you are toxic, because everyone is.”
— Dr. Pat Luse, DC, The 7 Systems Plan, Chapter 7The investment difference between toxic and clean products is roughly $10–15 more per bottle — a fraction of what people spend treating the chronic conditions these chemicals contribute to.
