The Insulin Death Spiral6 Steps from Bad Carbs to Diabetes

March 8, 2026 · Dr. Pat Luse, DC

High insulin is associated with all five of the top killers in America: heart disease, hypertension, stroke, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. The #1 factor leading to increased insulin is consuming too many bad carbohydrates. And once the spiral starts, it accelerates.

The 6-Step Death Spiral
1
Insulin stays too high. Glucose receptors on your cells respond by “tuning out” — they stop listening.
2
Sugar can’t enter cells. It converts to fat. Fat from your diet gums up the locks on your cells. You gain weight.
3
Blood sugar stays high. Pancreas releases more insulin in a desperate attempt to force glucose into cells.
4
Cells fill with more fat. They resist insulin even harder. You now have insulin resistance syndrome.
5
Liver becomes toxic. Fat accumulates in the liver. Fatty liver disease develops. Insulin function impairs further. Type 2 diabetes.
6
Pancreas exhausts. It becomes fatty and quits working. Now you have type 1 diabetes.

The medical community’s usual answer? Drugs that drive even MORE glucose into already-sick cells: insulin, sulphonylureas, or metformin. These drugs lower the blood sugar number on the test but do not fix the problem.

Dr. Pat Luse, DC, says the answer is to change your diet so insulin works for you again. His patients have reversed type 2 diabetes, eliminated insulin injections, and gotten off all diabetic medications — within weeks, not months.

“The answer is not to drive more and more sugar into sick cells, but to change your diet to make your insulin work for you again.”
